Dayenu

If You had only given life to a four pound premature baby, that would have been enough.

And if You had only allowed that baby to grow and become healthy, that would have been enough.

If You had only comforted that little girl through a lonely childhood, that would have been enough.

And if You had only protected and freed her from sexual abuse that no one knew about, that would have been enough.

If You had only given her a sensitive and malleable heart, that would have been enough.

And if You had only given her grandparents who loved her deeply and so well, that would have been enough.

If You had only given her a dad who always provided, a mom who loved her deeply, and a stepmom who always showed up, that would have been more than enough.

If You had only blessed her with church community and surrounded her with other believers, that would have been more than enough.

And if You had only allowed her to serve and lead in different ministries, from her teenage years until now, that would have been enough.

If You had only blessed her with a brilliant mind and the opportunity to pursue an education, that would have been enough.

And if You had only blessed her with friends who truly loved her, that would have been enough.

If You had only allowed her to serve on a mission trip in Africa and see a world beyond her own, that would have been enough.

If You had only allowed her to grow a baby in her belly, that would have been enough.

And if You had only allowed her breasts to produce milk to provide nutrients for her baby, that would have been enough.

If You had only allowed motherhood to expand her heart and mature her mind, that would have been enough.

And if You had only allowed her to look upon the beautiful life that You created through her, that would have been enough.

If You had only allowed her to keep her daughter, that would have been more than enough.

And if You had only allowed her to watch that little life grow for the last seven years, that would have been more than enough.

If You had only carried her through moments of fear, anxiety, and depression, that would have been enough.

And if You had only blessed her with daily conversations with her mom and sister, that would have been enough.

If You had only surrounded her with parents, siblings, cousins, and family, that would have been enough.

And if You had only allowed her family to be reconciled and come to know You, that would have been more than enough.

If You had only blessed her with work that she loves and the ability to make a difference, that would have been enough.

And if You had only given her a boss and coworkers she loves, that would have been more than enough.

If You had only continued to provide for her needs, again and again, that would have been more than enough.

And if You had only kept her little Corolla with almost 200,000 miles rolling up and down the 91, that would have been enough.

If You had only given her safety and peace in her home, that would have been more than enough.

And if You had only allowed her to live near the ocean, to sit on its sand, dance in its waves, and breathe in its breeze, that would have been enough.

If You had only given us the gift of prayer and the beauty of songs of praise, that would have been more than enough.

But if You had done none of those things,
and only given her the knowledge of You,
that would have been more than enough.

And if all You had ever offered her was forgiveness, belonging, and love,

that would have been more than enough.

Dayenu.

Dayenu means, “It would have been enough for us.” A traditional Jewish song sung during the Passover to remember what God had already done.
