From Wailing to Worship: Seven Years Later, We Sing

From Wailing to Worship: Seven Years Later, We Sing

Romans 8:28
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him and who have been called according to His purpose.”

Early on in my pregnancy—before I even knew the gender—I laid in my parents’ bed. Mind you, I was 23 years old. Working full time. Bachelor’s degree obtained.

But I laid there in their home, alone. And I cried.

Well… more accurately, I wept. Wailed. One of those deep, gut-wrenching cries.

I held my stomach—afraid, overwhelmed, disappointed, in deep emotional pain—and I sang.

“He is jealous for me.
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy……….
How He loves us, oh how He loves us………
We are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes.
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.”

I was on my back, sobbing—yet singing this over the baby inside me. Defeated.

Over the years, I’ve still listened to that song from time to time, and I’ve sung it to whom I now know to be my daughter.

And tonight, as I laid in her bed with her, I was on my back again. She laid across me as I held her, and I began to sing:

“How He loves us…”

And y’all—for the first time, this little girl started singing with me. Word for word. Worshiping the Lord.

Both of us, singing with all our might. At one point, we even harmonized—and if y’all know my vocal abilities, that alone is a miracle, lol.

But there we were—united in spirit, seven years later—connected, singing:

“He is jealous for me.
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy…
How He loves us, oh how He loves us.
We are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes.
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.”

My heart rejoiced—because in that moment, I was flooded with His love.
In just a fraction of a second, I was reminded of His kindness and His faithfulness.

In our connection, I reflected on the journey—and how it had come full circle.
In real time, I experienced what it means when He says He works all things together for good.

He is a good Father.
He hears us.
He sees us.
He cares.
He loves us.

And most importantly—He is worthy to be praised.
Not because of what He can do for us, but because of his character—because of who He is.

He is alive. He is moving. He breathes.
