Hey Mama Bear,
As you know, I’ve been writing to you since the moment I found out I was pregnant with you. This, however, is the first time I’m writing to you in a way that others can see. While we’ll still have our personal journal, I’ve decided to start sharing some of my letters to you publicly. The reason I’m doing this is to open my heart and share my vulnerabilities in hopes of creating deeper community and connection.
I’m not sure how old you are while reading this, but I imagine you’re at least in your teen years. Baby girl, I just want you to know how loved you are. I’m sure by now the world has tried to tell you otherwise—and maybe you’ve even questioned it yourself. But I pray you know, deep in your soul, that with both God and Mama, you are beyond loved.
Brielle, I never want you to forget who you are—and whose you are. You are loved. You were created with purpose. You are light. You are beauty. You were made intentionally. You are wonderful, smart, brilliant, funny, creative, energetic, helpful, responsible, a leader, and so much more. You belong to a perfect God who created you exactly how He wanted you.
I pray that by now you truly believe in your heart that God is not a liar and He makes no mistakes. He is intentional, and He is good. Everything that happens, He can work together for good. Always have faith, Mama, and trust Him.
Brielley, there is so much I’m figuring out as I go. I know you know by now that Mama is not perfect. I’ve made a million and one mistakes. But I want you to know that I always try to do my best—for two reasons:
- The love God and I share.
- The love I have for you.
Your life and your spirit are worth fighting for. I fight every day to be the best mother I can be because you are worth it and God is worth it.
I know I won’t have all the answers. And I know that you won’t either. But there is one thing I can give you, Brielle—something I know with absolute certainty, with every breath in my body:
God is real.
He loves you.
He is good.
He will never leave you or forsake you.
He cares deeply for you.
Jesus is the way.
He speaks. He lives.
His ways are higher than our ways.
His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
Our best understanding can’t fully comprehend Him.
And even on our best days, we’re not good enough—yet on our worst days, He still chooses us and loves us.
That truth is the greatest gift I can give you.
I can’t protect you from everything in this world (though best believe I’ll try), but I can lead you to the One who holds your heart in His hands and always has your best in mind.
He loves you more than I ever could.
And if you ever struggle to hold on to that truth, pray—and know that your Mama’s prayers are always covering you.
I love you, Mama Bear.
Always.
